Selfie Sticks? Thumbs up? or Down?

Selfies are one of the most popular thing in our society. Selfies are pictures of yourself you post on any social networking websites. Everyone takes selfies, it can just be one with you or with your friends. Selfies are becoming popular because when you post a picture of yourself on the internet, like Instagram many people can see it and like it. I find selfies as something people can keep as a memory with their family and friends.

An addition of the selfie would be the selfie stick. The selfie stick has become really famous

in our society, and it seems to be taking off really well. Everyone seems to be enjoying it. It is also a great way to take pictures of you and your group of friends with a nice background since now you can extend the phone camera a bit further. However, just like how anything becomes famous, many problems will start happening. In some countries, they have banned this simple invention in some places. How can they ban something that doesn't seem like it won't do anything? Well the places the banned selfie sticks are in museums and tourist sits due to safety reasons. On one side, I understand where they are coming from since they do not want to take the risk of people breaking the things because they put the stick too far and it accidentally broke something. I suppose this might be the reason why, since they were never clear on the reason. What I think about selfie sticks are that they are pretty cool and they shouldn't be banned. I think it can become handle to many people when they want to take a selfie, but they want it further than an arm's length to maybe include more people. I don't really see the selfie stick as a risk to anyone, but then again maybe some people do not want to take the chances.

The Future is in Our Hands

Communication plays a role in each and every one of our lives, and the ways of communicating with each other across the world is improving by the day. Something that is being involving the way we communicate and throughout technology is artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence(AI) is an area of computer science that emphasizes the creation of intelligent machines that work and react like humans. As technology keeps upgrading, people are making things that we thought maybe 50 years ago, can't be possible. But, here it is, it is amazing how technology has grown to a whole new level. If technology keeps going this direction, we can make things that be similar to a human. Sooner or later, all of the technology we've seen in movies thinking that can't be possible, well I think it is on its way.

In the 21st century, we are the era for the start of advance technology. We get to see things probably the past thought, they could never see it happen. Also, the crazy part is that, this is just the beginning. Maybe in another 50 years from now, the technology is just going to get crazier. To me, I find it incredible how technology developed throughout the years. And to imagine, it is just going to get a lot better. 

Artificial Intelligence can be one of the things many people thought could never happen, however it is here. Some may think it's cool, while some may think it's creepy. Like in those movies, where they create something for good, but it backfires and ends up wanting to conquer the world. Technology has its advantages and disadvantages, but what does't have its ups or downs? Everything we make will always have its side effects, but we still use it. What I have to say about AI is that it is a huge step for the next thing.

I strongly think it will be used more often in the future by the way it is heading. Some of the advantages are: it can take stressful and complex tasks, that we struggle or are not capable of it. 

It can also get the job done faster, than us, it can help out with the elderly or the children. They can be a learning and teaching source for them. They can also protect you from danger, as it can alert you if it spots anything. Another big is they are machines which means they never stop, they do not need to sleep, or get sick, they are able to just go, go, go. Obviously they still need to get charged, or refuelled. However, the main point is that they can do a lot more work than we can. With all of these advantages, we think this is create, but there are also many setbacks to it. Like in the movies, iRobot, The Matrix, or Wall-E, we see how the humans end up relying on them too much. Which caused the robots ruining their lives when something went wrong. Even though, these are just movies, that doesn't mean it cannot happen. Also, it can be misused to the wrong uses. In the wrong hands, anything can happen. Another big thing is, lack of human touch. These are machines, they may work like humans, but that does not mean that they will have feelings like us. The machines will lack emotion, with that anything can go wrong. 

As I talked about how AI can be a good thing, with the advanced technology that has been coming out lately, and will be soon. It is only a matter of time, this will all be right in front of us. 

Stereotype Society?

In society, there will always be the stereotypes no matter what the topic is about. We may think that there has to be at least one way where this is not possible, but it is people will always find a way to judge anything. It is just how our society works, maybe there is something we can do about it, but from where things are heading right now I don't think that will be happening anytime soon. Stereotypes can be a good or a bad thing, but in most cases there's a lot of negativity towards it. In society, people have to look this way because of their race, or others have to act a certain way because of their race. It is even getting worse as we suspect this to be a normal thing everyone should be doing. Others may think it could be for "fun," but is it really? How would that person feel if we are telling them they have to act dumb because they are a blonde. Sometimes we don't think when we act, we just do it because it's cool.

Women are more often seen in commercials like cleaning, washing clothes, and taking care of kids than men because they are seen more responsible these things. Which is not true, since both men and women can both the same things. Why should women only do the cooking and cleaning in the house? We were not created to do that. While men are generally more shown in cars, cigarettes, business investments or products. When commercials portray the roles of each gender like this, it makes the public think maybe this is how it should be. When it shouldn't be like that, men and women should have equal rights. No gender is greater than the other.

In the commercial below, we see a group of women in a research facility to show them that Clorox is the best detergent for them to use to remove stains. This commercial shows us that washing clothes is a women's job. It reinforces the stereotype that women should stay home cleaning. Also, another thing we can see about this commercial that most of the scientists are men. Which tells the audience that men do the important work, while women should just stay home. 

Gone Too Far

Social media has always been a huge part of our life. As technology keeps improving and continues having a huge influence on our lives. The negative side of it is catching up to us. With everything new to our society, we somehow find some way to twist it into a bad thing. Bullying has gone to a whole new level with social media. With all of the freedom everyone has online, someone was bound going to go overboard sooner than later. Cyberbullying the new present way of bullying taken place online. What is different about cyberbullying is that people who are suffering from this are finding is really hard to get away from it. Cyberbullying can happen 24/7, and reach the person whenever they are online, all the time. Cyberbullying has become a serious issue in our society.

Bullying can happen to anyone, to kids, adults, and to even celebrities. Now, some of us may think that celebrities do not deal with what we have to deal with. That is absolutely untrue, we have got to remember that celebrities are still human beings with feelings. They are not any different from us. Just because they are rich and famous does not mean we get to reach them any differently, or for the right for us to target them. Celebrities get many death threats, hate, and judgment from the social media, especially Twitter. Most celebrities have Twitter accounts, which many of their fans follow them so they can have daily updates on them. However, on Twitter there are many haters who will do anything to ruin their mood. Celebrities can receive a million of supportive and happy tweets, but one hate tweet can ruin their day. It can at least take one hate tweet to ruin someone's mood. Being a celebrity is very hard, you do not just have the paparazzi following your every move, you have the whole world watching you. It is like you are trapped, one bad move that is it, your career can be over.  It is sad to that hate is something normal for celebrities to encounter, since now everyone is going to be supporting you or like you.

The million dollar question would be why do people think it is alright to send hate to celebrities? There can be million of answers to why people do it. However, I think it is mainly because people are jealous since celebrities are rich and famous. They are living the dream anyone would do anything to have it. We are clouded by our jealously we do not see what it is doing or causing to them. None of us stop to think, do they read it? We may think that since they are really busy with things they would not go online and scroll through the tweets and see the hate they are sending to them. But we could not be any more wrong than that. They can start believing it, and get depressed by it. Which can turn into a serious problem because they can end of hurting themselves because of some people who were just jealous of what others have that they cannot have.

Another reason why people do this can be for a joke. They might suddenly decide to send hate for fun, thinking what harm can one hate tweet do. We cannot always assume that just because one thing cannot affect them, we can just do it. A lot of people might think of what you are thinking, so imagine the number of thinking sending hate of the same reason why you are sending hate. The numbers will keep adding up and it will just keep on going. This is a never ending process, hate cannot be stopped it is just the downside of social media. There are ways of sending awareness to people of how the simplest tweet can affect someone. But there will always be that one person who will continue doing it, even if they are fully aware of the damage it can cause.

I think we can just do our best and send awareness everyone of cyberbullying and bullying. We should keep talking about it and have people realize how badly it keeps getting till this day. I also think that we should have some restrictions on social media like Facebook or Twitter so people can start feeling safe online. All we can do is try and keep trying until the message becomes clear to people, no matter how long it takes.
